Over at the Texas Teachers Against Rick Perry Facebook group, CarrieAnne Faithfull comments, “Beginning in 1999, then Gov. Bush and later Gov. Perry removed the tuition cap at public, state universities and now a college education is no longer affordable for the average family in Texas… Teachers will now be required to teach more students, teach more classes, work longer hours and have less time off for the same or less money. If you have children or pay property taxes, Gov. Perry cutting education funding does affect you.”

Jodie Brekke writes, “Perry cut the budget, the Legislature cut education funds and teacher’s pay. It won’t be long before we have a huge shortage of teachers in Texas. Is this really the best move for Texas?”

Rick Perry has cut state funding for education, and then diverted money from the federal government intended for education – after he complains that the federal government should butt out!

This spring, a crowd of 11,000 parents, students and teachers protested Rick Perry’s anti-education agenda.

Now, Rick Perry wants to become President of the United States – why, so he can wreck education across the United States like has in Texas? No thanks, Governor Perry. We’re listening to the Teachers Against Rick Perry.

Can I Teach Evolution In Your Church?

When I saw this button, I just about fell over laughing. It’s a great example of how a well considered phrase can reveal the weakness in an opponent’s argument. It asks:

So, can I teach evolution in your church?

What a brilliant reversal of the Creationist campaign to force public schools to teach religious faith in high school science classrooms! The Creationists want us to pay taxes to teach religion in our schools, so why not have the reverse take place, and have churches pay for biology teachers to come and teach evolution in Sunday School?

The answer is obvious. It’s not the business of public schools to tell churches what they can preach on Sundays. Of course, that’s the point – the two realms are separate. Creationist Christians have no more right to push their religious beliefs in public school science classes than science teachers have the right to educate Sunday School students about how evolution works.
