Who Stands for Peace?
The old saying goes that peace is more than just the absence of war. Sometimes, attitudes like that make the path to peace seem like something for ethical elites, people so good that they are able to sparkle with the glitter of pure nonviolence no matter what frustrations they encounter.
The real work for peace is a lot less pure than that. Peace will never be obtained by those who seek perfection or nothing at all. It’s a hard struggle that comes piece by piece, sometimes painfully. We can work toward pure peace, but we need to start where we are.
That means that peace activists don’t need to start out having all the answers. They don’t need to be free from all anger in their hearts. They just need to be willing to give it a try.
