Where are they now? The Alabama Green Party has become a mystery, like the lost settlement of Roanoke. What are Greens in Alabama to do?

There’s still an Alabama Green Party bumper sticker for sale. There’s an Alabama Green Party t-shirt too – made in the USA, and a similar model over at Zazzle.

Can anyone give us an update about the status of the Green Party in Alabama, though? Are they just temporarily offline, or permanently defunct?

Re-Elect Terri Sewell To Congress

The St. Petersberg Times lists Terri Sewell as one of the top ten incoming members of the House of Representatives to watch. Even as Sewell is celebrated as one of the few new Democrats in Congress this year, however, she remains an endangered species, the last Democrat to represent Alabama on Capitol Hill.

For those who don’t want to see the Alabama Democrats die out, the campaign to re-elect Sewell to Congress starts now. You can join in that effort with this bumper sticker expressing your support for Sewell in 2012.

Political Button Predicted Parker Griffith’s Party Switch

Over at the Irregular States collection of state-focused progressive campaign gear, they called it right on Congressman Parker Griffith. Weeks ago, they released a new political campaign button with the text: If Parker Griffith is a Democrat, I’m a Barn Owl!

Now it’s sure, they’re no barn owls over at Irregular States. They’re right on the money. Today, Representative Griffith announced that he’s switching political party constituencies from Democrat to Republican.

Don’t expect to see a change in Griffith’s voting record, though. Griffith was already voting like he was a Republican. He was a Blue Dog Democrat, a Democrat who supports a right wing agenda pretty much like that of the Republican Party.

This afternoon, Irregular States has posted a new button design: Alabama Voters Unite Against Parker Griffith. Democrats have learned that Congressman Griffith can’t keep his word. Republican can see that Griffith might switch allegiances again next year. Whatever his political party of the moment, Parker Griffith holds to an extremist agenda that’s just plain out of touch with the needs of the day.

Vivian Figures for U.S. Senate from Alabama

Take a look at the narrow gaze of cable television, and you might think that the only elections being held tomorrow are the presidential elections in Montana and South Dakota. Turn off the tube, however, and look for election information on your own, and you’ll see that there’s a lot going on beyond the presidential election.

Tomorrow in Alabama, for example, there will be a primary election to determine the Democratic nominee for United States Senate to go head to head against Jeff Sessions, the incumbent Republican.

My bet is on Vivian Figures, the most experienced, most coherent of all the Democratic contenders.

Figures is for strong education for all children, for trade that keeps jobs in the USA, for a health care system that serves all Americans instead of just the insurance companies, for an end to the drain of American dollars into the Iraq War. Vivian Figures isn’t a partisan ideologue out to score points. Her ideas for America just make sense.
