Massachusetts Republican Michael Stopa is running for a seat in the U.S. Congress based upon a claim of superior rationality due to his professional status as a scientist. Stopa may have technical ability when it comes to his subspecialty within nanotechnology, but when it comes to political philosophy, Stopa’s critical thinking skills seem to have gone out the window.

Michael Stopa has attempted to promote his congressional campaign by making the wild assertion that Barack Obama is an atheist. “I actually don’t think Barack Obama is a Muslim. I think he is a nonbeliever,” Stopa says.

So, where is scientist Stopa’s evidence for Obama’s atheism? “I have no specific evidence,” Stopa admits. Stopa merely believes that President Obama must be an atheist, because Obama doesn’t agree with Stopa’s right wing ideology.

Thinking Massachusetts voters are slapping their foreheads. With his fringe Cold Earther rejections of climate science and his politico-religious conspiracy theories, it’s clear that Michael Stopa is a raving lunatic.

There are atheist bumper stickers… and then, there are atheist bumper sticker schemes.

It’s an atheist bumper sticker scheme that promises to deliver you the following simple atheist / skeptical message: I Don’t Believe. It’s available free from NewsBusters!

But, NewsBusters is a Christian-dominated, right wing web site. Why would it be giving away an atheist bumper sticker like this for free?

Well, it isn’t. Over at Irregular Times, they’re suggesting that you create the atheist bumper sticker from the free right wing media whining bumper sticker shown below. Just take a pair of scissors, and voila! The “liberal media” cliche is gone!

Spread the word to help defund a bunch of right wing windbags. Be a bumper buster!

The days in which North Carolina could be categorized as another notch on the Bible Belt are gone. Backwards pockets still exist, but most residents of North Carolina today have extensive out-of-state connections. They’re an increasingly worldly people, and they reject the limited vision of a Bible-based life.

This bumper sticker is for part of the new North Carolina, in which private beliefs are actually, you know, a matter of private conscience: North Carolina atheists.

If you’re a non-religious person living in Georgia (and according to the American Religious Identification Survey, there are more people like you every year), you may be wondering where all the nontheists like yourself are hiding out. It can be difficult to find other non-believers, especially in a place like Georgia.

Here are some places to start:

If you’re in Atlanta, there are 2 freethought organizations for you: The Peachtree Freethinkers and the Atlanta Freethought Society.

Think Atheist also has a Georgia Atheist group online, and it looks like offline meetings are going to soon begin.

You also can attract other atheists in Georgia to you, by placing a Georgia atheist bumper sticker on the back of your car, and waiting to see just who the hook reels in.
