It’s true, and the Republican candidate for Governor made it unavoidably plain. When he was asked “Would you support offshore drilling in the waters off the Maine Coast?” in a televised gubernatorial debate in May of this year, Paul LePage gave an unequivocal one-word answer: “Yes.”

We’ve seen what happened to the fishing and tourism industries of the Gulf Coast after BP’s recent oil disaster. Is this what you want to see happening in Maine’s future?

We make the following bumper stickers on the subject of the environment available for sale through the print-on-demand website Zazzle, but they’re not all equally popular there. In the list below they’re ranked, from our most popular design (at the top) to our least popular design (at the bottom):

	Bumper Sticker Definition of Environmentalism

What is environmentalism? I prefer this simple definition:Environmentalism is the crazy idea that we ought to clean up after ourselves.Defuse all the crazy right wing political nonsense about the environment with this straight talking bumper sticker, which reminds people that taking care of the environment is just a matter of the family values we try to teach our children.

Is the Earth getting hot, or is it just me?

Is the Earth getting hot, or is it just me? This bumper sticker tries to be sexy and socially conscious at the same time. Read the bumper sticker through three or four times, and you’ll get the double meaning. Are you hot, or is it just global warming? It’s green for the environment on the inside, but red hot on the outside.

My Other Car is a Hiking Boot

Open people’s minds to alternative forms of transportation with this environmentalist bumpersticker that reads: My other car is a hiking boot. Have human beings forgotten how to walk? Help remind them how to put one foot in front of the other.

Fight Global Warming and Get on your Bike

Global warming comes from the pollution of big factories, but also from the personal cars people drive, even on short trips. Help reduce the carbon emissions that fuel global warming. Get on your bicycle when taking trips within a shorter range. In protecting the environment, every bit of conservation counts.

Stop Watering the Lawn (bumper sticker)

Stop Watering the Lawn — You Live in the Desert! If you are a resident of Eastern California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, or Arizona, you know what I’m talking about. Get your fellow residents to stop acting like they still live in Wisconsin! (environmentalist sticker for denizens of the Southwest)

Tree Hugger Not A Smokestack Hugger

Pro-pollution activists mock environmentalists as tree huggers, but what’s the true alternative to environmentalism? Ought we to live in filth? As for myself, I would rather be a tree hugger than a smokestack hugger. Show the true alternative to living green with this environmentalist bumper sticker.

	Drill, Baby, Drill? Bumper Sticker

Golly, but those Republicans sure had a good time chanting Drill, Baby, Drill during the last election cycle, didn’t they? Ask the Republicans now: How’s that "Drill Baby Drill" thing working out for you? How’s it working out for us all? With BP and Deepwater Horizon, all we can say is "Good gracious!"

Polar bears had it hard enough before John McCain chose Sarah Palin as his running mate in the Republican campaign for the White House. Polar bears are suffering the record melt of the polar ice on the Arctic Ocean. The bears depend upon that ice in order to hunt seals, their main prey. Now that significant amounts of ice are gone in the summertime, the bears are finding it difficult to find enough food to eat.

So, after years of illegal delays by George W. Bush, the polar bears were finally given Endangered Species Act protection this year. Almost immediately, however, that victory for the polar bears was itself endangered. As Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin filed a frivolous lawsuit on behalf of the big oil companies in order to try to force the federal government to reverse the decision to protect polar bears.

Science was on the side of the polar bears. It’s clear that they’re a threatened species. Yet, Sarah Palin argued that polar bears ought to be allowed to die off because profits for oil corporations are more important.

America has suffered under that kind of anti-environment, anti-science attitude for eight long years. If Sarah Palin is elected Vice President… well, the plain fact is that John McCain is elderly, and he’s not in good health. McCain has had cancer four times, and has other serious health conditions. Sarah Palin would likely become President if John McCain were elected.

That’s why polar bears, and the people who care about their survival, are against Palin. These lapel stickers can be worn by those who want to spread the word, and speak for the bears (for the bears have silent tongues, and I’m telling you Palin, at the top of my lungs…)

(They’re available as campaign buttons there too, but given that the theme of this blog is progressive bumper stickers, I thought I’d stick with that.)
