Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein isn't just conveniently adopting the language of these protests. She's been in the fight for a long time.

Green Party presidential candidate Dr. Jill Stein began to explain her political career to students at Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts by citing the ongoing political debate about the way that health care is administered in the United States. She said,

“I myself became active as a physician, working in health care for many years, for 25 years really, trying to give people the care that they need in a very broken system that just keeps getting more broken… What I learned as a physician in health care is that there is so much we can do but that it’s hard to get politicians to listen to the solutions that are actually right there within our reach that could bring down the cost of health care, that could make it possible for all of us to have affordable and comprehensive health care insurance.”

The goal of fair access expands from health care to the total economy for Jill Stein. It’s been noted that she is the only presidential candidate to have visited any of the protests taking place across America as part of the occupation movement. Stein is taking stands that align her with the 99 percent, against corporate elites, just as Occupy Wall Street and its followers have done.

Stein isn’t just conveniently adopting the language of these protests, though. She’s been in the fight for a long time. Eleven months before Occupy Wall Street began, Stein said in a speech before students worrying about how they could begin their careers in a time of economic crisis, “The 400 wealthiest families across America quadrupled their wealth – four times over – in the past decade, whereas most people are struggling to just make ends meet, and to keep from going off the cliff.”

Jill Stein isn’t just posing as a member of the 99 percent. She’s the real deal. Stein can be a genuine President of the people. Support her campaign with this Stein for President bumper sticker.

The Alabama Green Party has become a mystery, like the lost settlement of Roanoke. What are Greens in Alabama to do?

There’s still an Alabama Green Party bumper sticker for sale. There’s an Alabama Green Party t-shirt too – made in the USA, and a similar model over at Zazzle.

Can anyone give us an update about the status of the Green Party in Alabama, though? Are they just temporarily offline, or permanently defunct?

Gray pledged to support single payer health care instead of the pro-industry sham promoted by Senator Blanche Lincoln. By eliminating the commercial inefficiencies created by insurance companies, the Gray Health Plan would enable savings that would pay for health care coverage for all Americans.

One of the most fundamental promises the Democratic Party made to voters in 2008 was that, if only the Democrats had control of both houses of Congress, including a veto-proof majority in the U.S. Senate, and a President in the White House, then America would finally see meaningful health care reform. Well, all those things are finally in place. So, have we got meaningful health care reform?

No, we don’t, and Democrats in Congress are the reason we don’t. In the House of Representatives, the Blue Dog Democrats wrecked health care reform. In the Senate, five right wing Democrats joined the Republicans on the Senate Finance Committee today to vote against a public option in health care reform. These five Democratic turncoats were:

Max Baucus
Blanche Lincoln
Kent Conrad
Bill Nelson
Tom Carper

Progressive organizations agree – without a public option health care reform is rendered virtually meaningless. Now, these right wing Democratic senators have killed the public option. They’ve ripped the heart out of Barack Obama’s reform program.

So what are we going to do about it? Sit around and mope? No. We’re going to teach these anti-progressive Democrats a lesson about what happens when leaders break promises made to progressives. The progressives get organized, and they fight back.

In Arkansas, John Gray is leading the charge. He is challenging Blanche Lincoln from the left, asking why Lincoln is abandoning Democratic Party promises and voting like a Republican instead.

Today, Gray responded right away when he heard that Blanche Lincoln had voted against Barack Obama’s public option. Gray linked Lincoln’s anti-reform vote to the large campaign donations she receives from insurance companies and other commercial entities that make a profit from the broken status quo. “She has a rather large campaign chest, almost half of which is from the medical industries,” Gray said. “The fact that she is loyal to her sponsors is not at all surprising.”

Gray pledged to support single payer health care instead of the pro-industry sham promoted by Senator Lincoln. By eliminating the commercial inefficiencies created by insurance companies, the Gray Health Plan would enable savings that would pay for health care coverage for all Americans.

Universal health care coverage – remember that promise? John Gray has not forgotten. That’s a darned good reason to vote John Gray for Senate in 2010.

Think about the Vinalhaven wind project and you’ll figure out which way the wind is blowing.

Why support the California Green Party? There are two reasons I can think of, offhand.

On the negative side, the California Democrats have been positively disappointing. On the national scale, there’s Nancy Pelosi, who seems dedicated to taking every good progressive idea off the table, and has been enmeshed with terrible Republican policies such as the use of torture. On the state scale, California Democrats have been celebrating the Supreme Court ruling upholding Proposition 8, denying marriage equality.

On the positive side, the Green Party of California is putting forward great candidates. In the 10th congressional district right now, Green Party candidate Jeremy Cloward is talking about ideas such as free day care, cutting military waste, and supporting marriage equality. Greens like Cloward are doing now what California voters are always hoping that the Democrats will do… someday.

Isn’t it time that you voted along with your actual values, instead of with the Democrats’ excuses? I think so, and that’s why I support the Green Party of California – with this bumper sticker.
