Hoosiers don’t expect to get rich from their labor. They just want a basic, good life as a reward for their work. Yet, more and more, a hard day’s work is not being rewarded with a fair day’s pay.

The corporate executives of the manufacturing plants that used to dominate Indiana have stripped the state clean of jobs, shipping them overseas to foreign sweatshops in search of a quick boost to profits. The result is that the top one percent is making more money than ever, while the bottom 99 percent is struggling just to avoid financial disaster.

In the midst of this economic difficulty, Newt Gingrich comes along and tells Indiana that its teenagers should have to work extra evening shifts in the public schools as janitors in order to keep their schools up and running. Gingrich wants working families to be the ones making more of a sacrifice, when the top 1 percent has more than enough to keep the system running.

Using Indiana’s kids to help balance the accounts of corporations that have outsourced jobs away is a step too far. Indiana voters won’t stand for it, and that’s why, in the 2012 presidential contest, Indiana is against Newt Gingrich.

It’s the ultimate in arrogance that Mike Pence believes that this draconian, uncompassionate agenda places him in a strong position to become the next President of the United States. That’s where we stand, however. Mike Pence has begun campaigning in the preliminaries to the 2012 presdiential election.

Can the Mike Pence for President campaign be stopped? Grassroots activists in New York State are giving it a shot. A resistance effort of New Yorkers against Pence has begun there, and this bumper sticker is one manifestation of its work.

For voters who are outside the hard extreme of Republican leadership, however, It makes no sense to vote Mike Pence.

Let’s not forget that Congressman Pence was among those who pushed for the United States to rush into war in Iraq – a war that it turns out was never necessary, and cost huge numbers of American lives. Pence has also supported huge programs of government spying programs that are targeted against the American people.

Pence defends the privileges of economic elites while turning his back on basic programs that help working Americans. He’s campaigned against fair pay, and supports the preservation of special rules that let people who own yachts skip out on their financial responsibilities while average American homeowners struggle to make ends meet.

Mike Pence is out of touch with the needs of the United States in the 21st century. Voting to send him back for another term in Congress makes no sense.

Bye Bye Buyer, it reads, “Indiana can do better”.

Indiana certainly can do better. In the current session of Congress, Congressman Buyer earned a negative 49 legislative score from That’s My Congress. There is now hope that the 4th congressional district of Indiana can elect a more forward-looking Representative.

Bayh’s rather right wing attitude has led to some serious resentment among Indiana Democrats. That’s why many Democrats are withholding support for Bayh during his re-election campaign for 2010, and joining the insurgent campaign of Democratic challenger Tamyra d’Ippolito instead.
