Realistically, South Dakota probably isn’t the strongest political base for a presidential campaign, but then, when has John Thune been realistic? Senator Thune has supported all kinds of wacky political projects over the years, such as the rushed invasion of Iraq, a plan to entrust Social Security to Wall Street hedge fund managers, and now an effort to take away health care coverage from huge numbers of Americans.

To say that he’s not suited for the White House is to describe the matter gently. John Thune is an ultramaroon.

This kind of deceptive extremism isn’t what Pennsyvlania signed up for. This bumper sticker is now appearing on roads across the state, spreading the word that Pennsylvania is against Pat Toomey.

Rand Paul is too extreme for the U.S. Senate. But, wouldn’t you know it, Rand Paul is ahead in the polls. Does extremism help a political candidate in Kentucky?

This next bumper sticker makes use of simple rhyming to get the same message attended to by Kentucky voters: I Stand Against Rand and say no to his extremism.

O’Donnell says that some criminal suspects ought to have their constitutional rights taken away, just for being suspected of a crime. She claims that there is more evidence for Creationism than there is for evolution through natural selection. She claims to have been directed by the “audible voice of God”, and asserts that in judging people, it’s important to remember that “You’re either very good or evil.” She has said that the censorship instituted by governments in the Middle East is “refreshing”. She has said that Iran is “the Devil”, and cannot be negotiated with for that reason.

Christine O’Donnell believes that there is a scientific conspiracy to create mice with “fully functioning human brains”.

With all this, Christine O’Donnell won the Republican primary. Without some strong resistance, she could bring her radical ideas to the United States Senate.

Delaware, it’s time to speak out. Christine O’Donnell is too extreme for the U.S. Senate.

How about this tidbit for starters: John Raese is supporting the ambitions of elite investors and top executives at coal companies at the expense of coal miners’ safety. Raese seems to have forgotten all about the deadly explosion at Massey’s Upper Big Branch coal mine this year. Instead of calling for increased safety regulations, Raese says he wants to “unshackle” management at companies like Massey.

We’ve seen what happens when coal executives are allowed to operate mines under lax regulation. Raese’s proposal to remove protections is a kick in the face of coal miners, when they’re already down.

It’s the Blue Dog Democrat strategy to a T – and it’s enabled Melancon to rise to the top of the right wing Blue Dog Coalition in the House of Representatives. The Blue Dog Democrats are like Melancon – voting like Republicans in Congress, but registered as Democrats for electoral advantage. Melancon has become the co-chair of the Blue Dogs, leading the charge as the Blue Dogs rip apart progressive Democratic legislation.

Charles Melancon thinks that kind of political two-timing has earned him a promotion, so this year, Melancon is campaigning to become Louisiana’s newest United States Senator. The bumper sticker you see here speaks to Melancon’s bid, reading, Melancon is too much like a Republican to get this Democrat’s vote.

If you oppose the Patriot Act, don’t vote for Martha Coakley.

Bayh’s rather right wing attitude has led to some serious resentment among Indiana Democrats. That’s why many Democrats are withholding support for Bayh during his re-election campaign for 2010, and joining the insurgent campaign of Democratic challenger Tamyra d’Ippolito instead.

Well, the national emergency has come and gone, but the Patriot Act remains. It was renewed, in spite of previous promises, in 2005, and now, in 2009, it’s the Senate Democrats who are leading the charge to renew the Patriot Act. They’re trying to pass S. 1692, a bill to put off the sunset yet again.

Like the original Patriot Act, S. 1692 fails to protect Americans’ constitutional rights. Good senators like Russ Feingold and Dick Durbin supported an amendment that would have at least guaranteed that the Patriot Act’s worst powers would only be used in cases of suspected terrorism or foreign spying, but their amendment was dismissed. Worse yet, it was other Democrats who made up the deciding votes to kill the reform. The following Democrats voted no to reforming the Patriot Act:
